Oi muchachos !

I'm currently working on a series of canvas...and unusually taking my time to make it look as good as i want it to be (as I'm more used to paint on big walls illegally in the streets or during live performances in dark and wet night clubs full of weirdos).

I have absolutely no idea if I'll get any chance to expose this work in another place than my tiny workshop someday... so I'm just going to share some details with you, in hope that you'll see the final result this winter.

As I mentioned before, La Braderie de l'art was my last time ever "custom"-"artist on sale" event...Even if I fell a bit like a freak in a zoo or a worker in a factory, it was a real challenge -creating 30 hours non-stop with 2nd hand furnitures a front of + 10 000 visitors- and people from the "Ch'nord" are definitly cool.
Here are a few of the improvisions I made last week-end, as you may have noticed, most were directly inspired by Alice in Wonderland's Lewis Carroll's tale as an extension of my last live-painting:

"La braderie de l'art de Roubaix" is an event that kind of remind me Design Festa in Tokyo.
150 international artists selected (performers, painters, sculptors,...) for a non-stop 24 hours perform (!!).

Only one rule: picking up second hand objects/furnitures/papers/clothes and recycle it by improvising creations on or with it.
Everything is gonna be sold between 1 and 250 euros which is a good opportunity to go back home with a unic piece of art or make an original present for christmas.
You could find me at the "graffiti-street art" corner, either live painting or sleeping behind my pots of acrylic...
Roubaix is just 2h30 by train from Paris, located at the border of Belgium on the very north of France, and right next to Lille which is a very cool city so if you can, you should consider visiting both Bruxelles, Lille and come say hi in Roubaix !
Probably the last time ever I'm part of such an event so hope to see you around...

Rendez-vous à "la braderie de l'art de Roubaix" les 5 et 6 décembre prochains. 150 artistes internationaux sélectionnés, 24h non-stop de performance (!!) et une seule règle: s'approprier ou détourner des objets/meubles/vêtements de seconde main pour en faire des créations.

This Hmong school is one of the 70 schools that were quickly built up the past few years to welcome the migrant kids from Burma.
There are 4 teachers for about 120 kids and they don't have electricity and neither water. I had the chance to help Playground People to bright up the place: they built an awesome and colourful playground in a record time and I painted the front concrete wall of the school. The kids were so happy...and so am I !
Painting for yourself is a real quest and a hobby sometimes, but sharing it is more meaningful, and when it brings so much smiles, hugs and happiness...it's priceless. I just wish I could speak some burmese so I can catch some words of all the stories they invented while they were staring at the strange stuffs I was painting.
Thanks to them for being indulgent about the result: I had to paint with glycero on a very dry concrete with a tropical sun burning my legs !

The situation on the border is terrible: there are thousands and thousands of refugees with no more family, no more home, no freedom, no work, and no hope for their future. Any help is needed, and especially if you go to Thailand, pass by Mae Sot even for a couple of days and give some of your time or if you can make a donation of clothes/medical care/school supplies/art supplies/money...this would be very helpful (ask directly to baan thai guesthouse: 740 Intharakiri Rd, Mae Sot. T: (055) 531 590).

Yes ! Here is EYESCREAM mag new issue (2009/5) for their 5th year birthday tanjobi omedeto !
For Immi's ITW they're showing my artwork. This mag is a super cool and serious lifestyle/street culture japanese magazine so it's a real pleasure for me.
Unfortunately, as I didn't accept to provide a picture of my face, they decided not to publish what they asked me to talk about (My work for Immi's new album). Not that it was interesting but for those who don't care about "me-myself-and I" picture, this is the little things I had written:

"Immi asked me to represent her throught two bicolour characters standing up. I remembered Madonna's gimmic "strike the pose" in one of her most famous late 80's song and tryied to imagine Immi in front of the mirror of an extrordinary and freaky dressing room. I'm very interested in shy people whose attitude and personnality are suggested throught their style by wearing very unusual, excentric and shocking costumes, like if their suits replaced spoken words. Immi is a dreamy and secret person but she's also a very creative and energic girl on the inside, that's those both side of her personnality I tryied to show"

The only rule was to create 2 bicolour characters standing up...
I'm more used to work on movements and thined-down colours so I worried a bit of getting a boring result. But then I remembered one of Madonna's 80's most famous gimmic "Strike the pose" and imagined immi in front of the mirror of an extraordinary and freaky dressing-room with "fish-belts", "duck-sleeves", and "kinda-parachute dress". Hope you like the result !

One of the things i was hoping to do in Japan was to make an illustration for a jpop artist, because it's a huge part of the popular japanese culture, and also because i thought my weird-kawaii style could really match with a punky technoïde girlband. From metrosexual guys singing lomantiku lock to über sexy cyber-lolitas singing on maquina with cartoon voices, Jpop is pop with its japanese influence...so very various.

When Immi asked me to create her character with my style, imagine the visual and illustrate her whole 1st EP, i got really excited by this project, moreover because she's a great singer and i got inspired by the electrobass music she sings on.

Her EP will soon be available on itunes but you'll have to wait september to discover the work i made on her album, so stay tuned !! And till then have a look on the making off:

so this event happened in the basement of a music studio around honancho shinjuku.
Bands, dj and performers rocking the place in an electro punk mood in the most underground place ever ! What better to experiment new aspects of live performing in this experimental party ? Graphic designer J*wls (who designed the flyer) and I had joined our skills and creativity for an interactive result that made us understand all the possibilities it could offer us... frenchies have not said their last word, we'll start to think about other ways to perform together so keep an eye on my blog the next months coming...

« 03h15. Je la vois sortir, capuche sur la tête, démarche de ptit gars pressé, elle s'engouffre dans une ruelle et s'arrête devant un bout de mur bétonné avant de s'accroupir derrière une vieille R5. Elle tripote ses poches, regards à droite puis à gauche tel un ninja en mission. Fiole en main elle dégaine son arme calibre fatcap et exécute une étrange chorégraphie calligraphique. L'encre ruisselle, on la sent d'ici. Elle s'en est foutue plein les mains mais elle à l'air de sourire, comme le visage multicolore qui coule le long du mur...
A peine le temps d'observer sa peinture qu'elle a déjà tracé comme une voleuse. Je m'envole et décide de me poser sur un entremêlage de spaghettis électriques. Il fait bon ce soir. La lune est cachée par la
brume, au loin on entend des rires de gens bourrés qui rentrent chez eux. La lumière est douce et tous les faisceaux jaunes et blancs des lampadaires forment des halos qui se fondent parmi les étoiles. C'est ma berceuse quotidienne...Je roucoule et m'assoupis paisiblement dans cette immense boîte de nuit en espérant rêver de visages multicolores."
